How Does an AODD Pump Work?
An Air Operated Double Diaphragm pump works using compressed air and two flexible diaphragms. The air valve directs compressed air to the backside of one diaphragm while the opposite diaphragm moves through the connected shaft.
During the pumping cycle, one diaphragm creates suction and draws liquid into the pump chamber, while the other diaphragm pushes liquid toward the discharge outlet. The air distribution system continuously alternates the movement of the two diaphragms to provide positive displacement pumping.
Because the pumped liquid is separated from compressed air by diaphragms, AODD pumps can be used for many difficult fluid transfer applications, subject to proper material and diaphragm selection.
